How do I use Mines Virtual Private Network (VPN) software?

If you have issues installing OpenVPN software or (in the case of Android, iOS or Linux) importing your custom profile, speak with someone in the ITS Technology Support Center (CT156) or submit a Mines Help Center "Helpdesk" support request at


  • The custom configuration profile will work only for the user who was logged in when it was downloaded. You can not download a configuration file for another user.
  • While some OpenVPN clients say they will "auto start" as soon as installation is complete, this does not happen in some cases. Please start the program manually after installation if necessary.
  • At this time, only Mines faculty, staff, and students with a MultiPass may download the necessary custom profiles needed to activate the VPN. Outside contractors, vendors, and the like should request access via the Mines Help Center "Helpdesk." Further information is available here:
  • The school's previous VPN solution -- Junos Pulse -- was decommissioned in August 2017.
